A RUSSIAN ICON OF CHRIST PANTOCRATOR WITH GILT SILVER, CLOISONNE AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMEL OKLAD, MOSCOW, 1899-1908

depicting Christ Pantocrator, egg tempera and gesso on wood panel, overlaid with gilt silver and cloisonne enamel oklad, decorated overall with foliate designs, with raised halo and spandrels, the vestments repoussed, the title plaques and Gospel in champleve enamel, marked with 84 standard with assayer's mark I.L in Cyrillic for Ivan Lebyodkin, maker's mark A.M.M., with an Estonian lion passant guardant national mark and 875 standard; overall dimensions: 22.3 x 17.7 cm (8 3/4 x 7 in.)

CONDITION
Observed with the oklad on, the icon is in overall good condition. Age-appropriate darkening to the silver in places, as apparent in photographs. Stable age-appropriate craquelure to the wood. Inspection under UV light shows an overall even layer of varnish with limited retouching on either side of the neck and the tips of the fingers, overall no more than 5-10% of the visible surface.
