Property from a Private Collection European Furniture & Decorative Arts In good, stable condition. There are some light surface scratches to bowl amongst the engraving. No other significant condition issues noted. Additional images available upon request.

NOTE:
The engraving on the bowl of this glass was a rallying cheer for the Tory party in the famously contentious parliamentary election in Oxfordshire in 1754. The Tory party, represented by Sir James Dashwood, 2nd Baronet (1715-1799) and Philip Wenman, 6th Viscount Wenman (1719-1760) squared-off against the "New Interest" Whig party for the two parliamentary seats allotted to Oxfordshire. The race became infamous for it's expense and the unrest it brought to the city of Oxford when the polls were open. The contest came down to less than 500 votes, and as a result, the sheriff declared a "split return" and the two parties brought their case to parliament where a Whig majority in the house of commons spelled the eventual defeat of "The Old Interest".
