A Rare Gilt Brass Square-Sided Multiple Dial, probably German, late or mid 16th century,
possibly by Ulrich Schniep,
the gilt brass pillar dial of square section with punched numerals and inscription, the vertical dials are for morning 4-1-2 and afternoon 10-12-8 hours with hinged gnomons mounted diagonally, below these are dials for unequal (planetary) hours II-VI and VI-X and calibrations for day lengths 8-16 and night lengths 8-16, the two other faces with tables of planetary hours one titled TABELA GVBER-NAMENTI PLANETARV IN HORIS INEQUALIBUS DIES and the other TABVLA GVB-ERNAMENTI PLANETARVM IN HORIS INEQVALIBVS NOC, the top domed lid hinged to open to small magnetic compass,
