Footnote: Messrs Gillow, in their Estimate Sketch Book for 31 March 1803,no. 1721 refer to this form of bergere as Ashburnham, while by 1807 it is referred to as an Uxbridge chair after one supplied to Henry Bayly, 1st Earl of Uxbridge in their Estimate Sketch Book, 1807,no. 1960-1962 (see S. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London: 1730-1840, Vol. II, Appendix A, p. 174 and p. 193).
Condition Report: Substantial. With a rich, nutty brown color to timber. General marks, scratches, rubbing and wear. Upholstery later. Some areas of buckling to caning. Rear right leg repaired. Front right caster broken off and retained.
