A Regency ebonised and parcel gilt day bed, circa 1815, the shaped back centred by a carved shell terminal, flanked by lappet carved scroll arms, on reeded and lappet carved square sabre legs, terminating in brass caps and castors, 78cm high, 211cm wide, 70cm deep
The distinctive shell carved terminal relates to the hall chairs produced by Gillows which feature a shell carved back. The shell-patterned back appears on hall chairs stamped by Gillows of Lancaster and illustrated in V. Slowe, Treasures from Abbot Hall, Kendal, Kendal, 1989, p. 6.
