A Regency papier mâché rectangular tray, circa 1815, by Henry Clay, with raised border, painted with bands of flowers, butterflies and leaves, on a black ground, impressed to the underside CLAY, KING ST COV.T GARDEN, on a later stand, as a coffee table, 51cm high, the tray 70cm x 51cm

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, The tray with cracquelure to painted areas and mainly to the base of the tray, there are some areas of old chips and also appears to have had some restoration but overall the painted decoration appears to be original, The tray has been attached to the base and is firmly in place, this was possibly attached when the aforementioned restoration was carried out - probably during the last quarter of the 20th century
