A Roman bronze handle from a vessel
An attractive bronze facing lion head applique, 2nd - 3rd Century AD, slightly oval in shape and formed from sheet bronze pounded over a wood or metal form. The applique is nicely embossed with large eyes, wavy mane, exposed teeth and nice openwork design. 9 1/4 x 8 1/4 in (23.5 x 21 mm). Light encrustation. Ex Hudson, MA private collection, acquired in Israel in the late 1960's.
