A Roman bronze oil lamp
A Roman bronze oil lamp, 3rd - 4th Century AD, the round body with plain shoulders and oval wick-hole. The fill-hole is round and fitted with a lid in the form of a striated shell, the hinge at the base of the thumb rest; ring handle now lost. L: 4 1/8 in (10.5 cm). Ancient repair on shoulder, deep brown surfaces. Ex Buckingham, UK private collection.
