A Russian icon of the Mother of God, Joy to all who Grieve, second half 19th century, wood panel with parcel gilt background, the Mother of God stands at centre flanked by saints and people with various afflictions accompanied by angels, with white scrolls with inscriptions of their suffering, at the top God is enthroned on clouds, five saints and an angel on the border, with associated sponki, 58cm x 47cm Provenance: Christie’s, South Kensington, 9 December 1992, lot 292.
