For a nearly identical example, see No. 139 on pages 286-287 of "Historic Pistols" by Smith & Bitter. Like the example in the book, this pistol has 2 brass ramrod ferrules. The only difference is pistol shown is stamped "M" for Maryland. This example either was not stamped "M" on the barrel or it has been worn away. According to the book, 510 pistols were delivered to Maryland under these contracts. The round barrel is stamped "P" in a suken oval cartouche on top of the breech. The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is stamped "H. DERINGER / PHILADA" in the center. Brass standard 1813 style furniture including a semi-stirrup pommel cap. Stocked in plain walnut, wooden ramrod is probably a period replacement. CONDITION: Barrel has been polished bright and shows scattered denting and pitting, proofmark is faint. Lock is a good professional reconversion and is polished bright, markings good. Brass mounts retain a mustard patina. Stock has several scattered pieces replaced on both sides. A very scarce and desirable War of 1812 martial pistol. DMG Barrel Length: 10" Caliber/Bore: .60 Smoothbore FFL Status: Antique Manufacturer: H. Derringer Model: Flintlock Pistol Serial Number: NSN
