KILLADOON HOUSE, PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT IRISH ESTATE

A SET OF SIXTEEN REGENCY MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS, TWELVE CIRCA 1807, FOUR CIRCA 1812

the rectangular moulded top rails above moulded X-shaped backs within moulded uprights, the padded seats with brass mouldings and turned tapered legs, en suite with previous lot

Condition Report:
This long set of chairs is in country house condition displaying a range of typical restorations consistent with age and use. For the most part, the chairs are sound and sturdy having been restored at some point in the 20th century. The later leather is nicely worn - with some scuffs and scratches - but sound. Brass trim in good order with some minor lifting in areas. Variation to colour due to some sun bleaching and a good wax would improve them subject to taste. Overall the frames have some chips, patch and plug repairs to some joints, and repaired breaks to legs, uprights and back rests. Some of these historic repairs would benefit from further attention, particularly a more recent break to upright of one back rest and an estate repairs with screws to back rest of another chair. Evidence of re-railing to some chairs although the majority retain their original rails. The chairs otherwise have typical old marks and scratches consistent with age and use and would be improved with further conservation although they are useable in their current state. Gallery inspection recommended.

"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
