(A) SIGNED BEDFORD COUNTY PERCUSSION KENTUCKY RIFLE BY

Percussion Kentucky style rifle built by William Border in Bedford County, Pennsylvania circa 1845. Full octagon unmarked rifled barrel with German silver blade front sight and rear notched sight. Barrel probably has been shortened at one point in life with rear sight residing about 3 inches back from normal position. Hand forged Bedford County style "Rat Tail" percussion lock signed in script "WB" for William Border. Lock is controlled by double set triggers. Full curly maple stock built in typical Bedford architecture. Brass furniture with 4 piece Bedford "Q" finial patchbox. Comes with hardwood ramrod with threaded metal tip. CONDITION: Metal parts have aged brown patina. Brass has unpolished golden patina. Wood has forestock that has been shortened when barrel was set back, wrist is cracked and appears stable. Small crack in toe. Dark bore with visible rifling and good mechanics.
