A SIGNED KASHMIRI KANI STRIPED WOOL SHAWL
Indian subcontinent, dated 1280 AH (1863 AD)
Rectangular in shape, woven from wool with multicoloured stripes, featuring dense floral elements interspersed with twisted cornucopia and boteh (paisley) leaf motifs connected by a running thread on a light green ground, alternating with thinner bands containing multicoloured vegetal motifs on a cream and yellow ground; signed (illegible) and dated 128[0] AH in a lobed cartouche with pendants embroidered at one end of the fabric, restoration to the textile.
