A SILK HERIZ CARPET, NORTHWEST PERSIA

third quarter 19th century,

inscribed 'By the Order of Tootoonchi'

approximately 400 by 310cm; 13ft. 2in., 10ft. 2in.

Condition Report:
This carpet is splayed at the lower end and is 328cm ( ) at the widest part, which is the lower end. Pile is generally good 1-2mm overall with some minor localised spot wear and oxidisation in taupe colour. The lower fifth of the field has more wear, and in the lower left hand border, which has wear down to the knot-bars and foundation. There are some small sections of repiling and small cobbled repairs scattered across the width of field, approximately 30cm up from the inner edge of the lower border. Some other small scattered areas of repiling and repairs in areas, which are barely visible. Sides are re-overcast and the ends have been secured with cotton tape on the back
