A SILK HERIZ RUG, NORTHWEST PERSIA

circa 1870

approximately 193 by 154cm; 6ft. 4in., 5ft.

Condition Report:
Rug is slightly longer on left hand side (197cm) and tapers to the top and bottom (145cm across top, 150 cm across bottom). Pile fair overall, varying 1mm to knot bars; noticeable wear in soft madder plain surround at sides adn some tension lines visible in field. Sides reovercast and ends with minute vestiges of fringes, overlocked to cotton tape on reverse at both ends. Finely woven. Beautifully drawn and very elegant example.
