A SILVER AND ENAMEL SINGING BIRD BOX, PROBABLY GERMAN, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

rectangular, painted with figures in Renaissance dress, the later lid and the cartouche on the side painted with a windmill by a riverscape, opening to reveal a singing feathered bird automaton, eagle-shaped lever, stamped: 485

10cm., 4 in. wide

Condition Report:
Probably some restoration to enemal below the hinge, slight discoloration, possibly some restoration to enamel on the sides; small dent to the lower left side, chip to red enamel on the right side; the bird with a silver beak and feathers; bird missing one eye. The movement fully working at the time of cataloguing. Sotheby's does not guarantee the functioning of movements. The hinge needs adjusting, small central medallion not entirely straight.
