A SILVER AND PARCEL GILT MANTEL CLOCK, ENGLISH, 1864the rare and fine solid silver clock in the Neo-Classical style, the architectural case surmounted by a classical bust of Socrates, flanked by rams head mounts, over the outswept case terminating in four feet modelled as sphinxes, the sides with pierced, scrolling mounts, the gilt dial with Roman numerals and engine turned centre, raised on a coromandel plinth base, the twin train movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell, lacking pendulum, the backplate signed 'MIROY FRERES PARIS', the case hallmarked for London, Stephen Smith & William Nicholson, C. 1864, approx 5.4 kilos,37cm high
