A SILVER-GILT MOUNTED LAPIS LAZULI SNUFF BOX, GIOVANNI ANDREA MASCELLI, ROME, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

rectangular with rounded corners, the lid applied with an oval fixé sous verre miniature of a riverscape at sunset, French School, early 19th century, maker’s mark, town mark; together with a gilt-metal mounted marble snuff box, probably Italian, early 19th century, circular, the lid applied with a miniature representing a ruined castle by the seaside, in the manner of Louis Gabriel Moreau, apparently unmarked
7.5cm., 3 in. wide; 7.3cm., 2⅞in. wide

Condition Report:
First box, lapis, mounts grubby; the miniature reasonable but with small area of perished paint at the centre.
Second, miniature good, gold mount of base fixed tight in lid, the stone base detached from mount and stone cracked and chipped in two places.
