A SILVER-GILT-MOUNTED MEISSEN PORCELAIN SNUFFBOX, CIRCA 1740

of cartouche form, painted in the manner of B. G. Hauer with vignettes of figures and riders in river landscapes, divided by bands of gilt scrolling foliage, the domed cover with figures loading vessels in river landscape, the interior of the cover with a vintner and companion in a landscape in sepia monochrome, the interior of the box richly gilt, the hinged mount later, French control marks
8.6 cm. wide

Condition Report:
Generally in good order and well painted. The silver-giltmounts are possibly 18th century but bear a French 19th century control mark. The mounts are slightly ill-fitting and are dented to the borders, the outer edge of the cover just below the mount may have been slightly ground to fit the mount. The interior of the cover has a very small chip between 4 and 5 o'clock below the mount. The edges of the base are slightly worn to small areas and the panel to the back of the main body below the hinge has scattered scratches to the vignette. Very minor scratches to the gilt interior of the body.
