A SILVER-INLAID BRONZE ROSEWATER SPRINKLER
PROBABLY HERAT, AFGHANISTAN, LATE 12TH CENTURY
The spherical body on a flaring foot rising to a tall tubular neck, the body worked in repoussé with birds around the shoulder on a ground of scrolling arabesque, a band of naskh on a scrolling ground below, a band of interlace decoration at the base of the neck with silver and copper leaves, a further band of naskh midway up the neck which otherwise is decorated with a strapwork design, silver inlay well preserved
