Japan, late 19th century, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Of kaku-maru-gata form with a raised rim and one hitsu, finely decorated in shishiaibori, takabori, katakiri, and copper and gold takazogan, depicting a recumbent deer to both sides, the front with the deer's head, neck, front legs and body, and the reverse with the deer's antlers and back, all against the silver migakiji ground. With a wood tomobako (storage box).
