A SLICE OF SEYMCHAN METEORITE, DISCOVERED IN RUSSIA, 1967; MODERN CUTTING

[ translate ]

A highly aesthetic Seymchan transitional pallasite and a notable example of the textural heterogeneity of the Seymchan meteorite. The small metal-rich areas display a prominent Widmanstätten pattern and represent the olivine-free region at the top of the iron-nickel core. The olivine-rich aggregates were derived from a fragmented olivine layer at the bottom of the mantle that was invaded by a metallic liquid during mixing at the core-mantle boundary; supported on fitted stand.

7 x 3 x 1in. (17 x 7.5 x 2.5cm.)

140g.

CONDITION REPORT:
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

Overall in excellent condition. Please note that weights and dimensions are approximate only and that the appearance and surfaces of meteorites might change if not appropriately cared for. Proper handling and correct humidity control are easy to accommodate and will ensure condition is maintained, please contact the department if you would like further advice on how to live with meteorites in your collection.
