A SMALL CHINESE JUN-TYPE PURPLE-SPLASHED TRIPOD CENSER Possibly Yuan Dynasty 或為元 鈞窰式紫斑三足爐 The compressed globular body raised on three short cabriole legs and rising to a gently-waisted neck below a flared rim, covered in a thick milky-blue glaze splashed with purple and suffused with a golden crackle, the glaze thinning to a mushroom tone around the rim and falling unevenly around the legs, revealing a buff-coloured body with a countersunk base, 5.8cm high, 5.5cm diameter - NOTE: A comparable censer, of similar size and decoration and dated to the Jin - Yuan Dynasty, was sold at Sotheby's New York, 18th March 2008, lot 90, and was illustrated in Qin Dashu, 'Jun Yao Ceramics from The Beixuan Shuzhai Collection', Hong Kong, 2017, pp. 180-183, no. 19. Another comparable censer was offered at Sotheby's London, 11th May 2016, lot 231, and another at Sotheby's London, 12th May 2021, lot 12. A censer from the Muwen Tang collection was included in the exhibition 'Song Ceramics from the Kwan Collection', Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1994, cat. no. 42, and was later sold at Sotheby's London, 12th November 2003, lot 49.Click here to share:Request a condition report
