A SMALL CHINESE PAINTED CIZHOU DISH Yuan - Ming Dynasty 元至明 磁州窰白釉繪蓮紋盤 The dish potted with shallow rounded sides supported by a short foot, painted to the interior in polychrome enamels to depict a stylised lotus flower, the exterior with a single thin red band, all over a cream-coloured slip under a clear glaze, 9.7cm diameter - PROVENANCE: Property of a French Private Collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s 來源:法國私人收藏,1960-1980年代在香港組成 - Note: Painted polychrome enamels were one of the most important innovations achieved by the Cizhou kilns. Enamel overglaze painting is one of the most celebrated traditions of the Ming and Qing dynasties, yet can be traced back to the Cizhou kilns as early as the Song dynasty. Designs in red, yellow, and green enamels are painted on glazed and pre-fired plain white pieces which are then fired at a lower temperature.
