A SMALL GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA VAJRASANA, TIBET, 16TH CENTURY
Seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus throne with beaded edges, his right hand lowered in bhumisparsha mudra. A small vajra sits atop the throne, identifying him as a particular form of Shakyamuni, the sage of the diamond throne. He is wearing a monastic robe with beaded hems. His serene face with downcast eyes below gently arched brows centered by an urna, his full lips forming a calm smile, flanked by long pendulous earlobes. The hair arranged in tight curls over the ushnisha.
Provenance: From an old Belgian private collection.
Condition: Good condition with some wear and minor casting flaws, rubbing to gilt, small nicks, light scratches. The base sealing possibly renewed at a later time.
