A Sub-Saharan Quran, in a bound format, in Arabic, decorated manuscript on paper, 112 leaves (plus 2 fly-leaves), apparently lacking 2 singletons in the text, single column, 16 lines black sudani script, some diacritics in red, opening 2 verses of the Quran with red and black geometric decorated borders, verses marked with red roundels throughout, surah headings also in red, catch-words throughout, first and last 2 leaves with du'a and contemporary annotations, a few scuff marks and some leaves a little darkened (as common), some outer edges repaired, not affecting text, 218 x 160 mm.; contemporary leather over pasteboards, ruled in blind, rubbed and scuffed An attractive Sub-Saharan Quran, uncommonly seen in this bound format. Manuscripts from this region are often unbound and presented in boxes, whereas the present copy was clearly copied and collated into gatherings with the clear intention of binding in traditional book format.
