A SUIT OF JAPANESE SAMURAI ARMOR
Edo era, comprising a rare pressed hide kabuto helmet of suji bachi form brown lacquered, with large, circular maidate displaying a samurai family mon and five-plate shikoro in black lacquer edged in boars bristles, and retains its liner and chin cord. The do is steel, lacquered brown with gold double stork mon. The sode, haidate and suneate composed of mail and plates with plates lacquered black, the kusazuri likewise of black lacquered steel. Wooden stand included. C. 1650-1700. Well worn, slight separation of helmet bowl and rim, losses to lacquer and cording. Height of do 76 cm / 30". Condition III
