Of muso-zutso shape; The surface of the ivory superbly polished and carved in high relief with three crabs (kani) disputing a blade of seaweed. The carving is extremely fine, the crabs are depicted naturalistically with minutely stippled shells. Signed underneath within a red inked seal YOSHITOSHI. The cord attachment in the shape of a reishi fungus near the rim.

With a stunning gold, copper and bamboo pipe depicting crabs amongst seaweeds. Signed KATSUHIRO (Kagawa Katsuhiro, 1853-1917), who was an important metalwork artist.
