A SYLVIA THALBERG SCRIPT FOR MAUGHAM'S STRICTLY UNCONVENTIONAL.
THALBERG, SYLVIA, and FRANK BUTLER. Mimeographed Manuscript, "The Circle" by Somerset Maugham, 96 pp, 4to, Culver City, CA, December 27, 1929, bound with brads and housed in goldenrod MGM covers with printed label to upper cover, stamped "file copy," with "Mr. Wilhelm" penciled to upper right corner and penciled note changes of Jan 2, 1930 to lower left, pages thumbed, covers chipped with some loss.

Strictly Unconventional was based on the play "The Circle" by Somerset Maugham which tells the story of a bored young woman married to a British aristocrat who, on the eve of leaving him for her Canadian lover, is warned of her folly by her mother-in-law (who had done the same thing 30 years earlier).

Sylvia Thalberg (1907-1988) was the sister of MGM's wunderkind producer Irving Thalberg. Though she was often accused of trading on her brother's success, she was an excellent screenwriter and novelist in her own right.
