A Saudi Arabian gold-mounted saif, circa 1930

The early, powerful, Hungarian sabre blade with double fullers and a double-edged point. Pandours with eagles and the motto "vincere aut mori Hungaria" engraved on both sides at the root of the blade. Silver quillons with an appliquéd ornament in sheet gold. The grip with fine gold wire winding, the delicately wrought grip straps, the pommel cap and the grip chain all made of gold. Camel bone grip scales. The wooden scabbard completely encased in lavishly chased sheet gold. Two gold-plated suspension rings. Length 94.5 cm.
