A Scarce Six Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Decoration
S. Johnston and Son, Beaver, Pennsylvania, Last Quarter 19th Century
with strongly everted rim, tooled rim and shoulder, and applied lug handles, with chop mark of S. Johnston and Son. Beaver. PA. 6., body decorated with three bold cobalt flowers and lug handles with blue dashes at points of attachment.
Height 15 5/8 inches.
Provenance: Ex Garth's Auctions, March 28, 2009, Lot 387.
Condition Report: Tight 4" hairline at front, and "t" shaped 3 x 3" hairline on right side near base. Neither hairlines extend through vessel wall to interior, and probably are as made.
