A Scottish George III mahogany hammer piano. Manufactured by Muir, Wood & Co. of Edinburgh, 1804–1811. H. 85 cm. W. 165 cm. D. 60 cm.

Muir, Wood & Co. established 1798 - “Musical Instrument Makers of His Majesty” from 1799 - was the premier Scottish piano manufacturer in the early 19th century. The present instrument was acquired by the Boswell family of Auchinleck House where it remained until 1932, when it was taken to Denmark by a daughter who married into a Danish noble family.

Today Auchinleck House is owned by The Scottish Historic Buildings Trust.
