A Scottish Officer's Basket-Hilted Broadsword, Late 18th Century
With earlier tapering double-edged blade (some areas of light pitting) cut with three narrow fullers over nearly its entire length on each side and incised 'Andria Ferara' within each central fuller between cross and eyelash marks at the forte, brass guard of fluted bars of rectangular section involving incised panels with circular and keyhole-shaped piercings, the side panels en suite and each above a scallop shell terminal, fore-guards, short scrolled rear quillon, stepped bun-shaped pommel, spirally-grooved wooden grip (split) bound with two strands of twisted copper wire, and retaining its leather liner
