A Set of Twelve Mintons Turquoise-Ground Plates of Sèvres Catherine the Great service pattern, 1882

decorated after the Service aux camées commissioned by Catherine the Great from Sèvres in 1776, the centers painted with medallions of various trophies including farming implements, musical instruments, a globe and anchor, and a hunting horn and game, gilt crowned globe MINTONS marks, impressed MINTONS, impressed date codes, various painted and gilded marks

Condition Report:
Overall the plates are in good appearance and unused condition. The enamels and gilding vibrant. One plate with a crack. One with some typical minor glaze crazing cracks to blue at well. Some very minor surface scratches.

Catalogue Note:
In the 19th century the Minton factory produced copies or replacements to be used alongside the original Sèvres 18th century service by the Russian Imperial court. For further reading see E. Aslin and P. Atterbury, Minton, 1798-1910, London, 1976, pp. 85-86 and D.C., "Thomas Goode's and the Czar," The Antique Collector, October 1987, p. 105.

The factory also imitated the pattern with the aim of appealing to a broader market. An example of 1884 centered with an LL monogram for the Marquess of Lothian, sold at Sotheby's London, January 20, 2022, lot 98.
