A Seven Piece Set of Unknown French style Reverse Painted Pressed Glass Fruit Bowls.
A set of seven pressed glass bowls of unknown French style, mid-20th century. The set comprises:
A large serving bowl constructed from clear pressed glass with a broad, scalloped pie-crust rim. The exterior is decorated with moulded fruit motifs including grapes, cherries, and leaves. The base features a reverse-painted enamel decoration depicting two yellow and orange pears, a cluster of blue grapes, and green leaves on brown stems. The interior sides are finished with a vertical fluted pattern.
A set of six individual dessert bowls of matching design and construction. Each smaller bowl follows the form of the central serving piece, featuring the same scalloped rim and embossed exterior fruit pattern. The bases are similarly decorated with back-painted enamel fruit motifs in vibrant orange, yellow, and blue tones. No maker marks, factory labels, or signatures are visible on any of the pieces.
Diameter: Approximately 23 cm (large bowl).
Diameter: Approximately 13 cm (individual bowls).
More Information
The set is in excellent overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The large bowl shows minor signs of age-related wear and light surface scratching to the reverse-painted enamel on the base (photo 3). The individual bowls show typical light surface scuffing to the undersides of the bases from use, but the painted decorations remain vibrant across the collection.
