[ translate ]

A Slavic carved boxwood pendant representing Saint George and the Dragon, 17th century, of circular form and openwork design, the raised rim with zig-zags in low relief

5.25cm diameter

CATALOGUE NOTES:

An extremely similar example is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, (accession number 30.95.210). In so many respects, including the positioning of the saint, the horse and the dragon; the delicately pierced arched windows in the background structures; and the zig-zag motif to the rim, the pendant offered here is highly comparable and must surely have come from the same workshop
