"A Slightly Cockeyed Map of That Slightly Cockeyed Community Hollywood..."

[ translate ]

Subject: Hollywood, California
Period: 1937 (circa)
Color: Printed Color
Size: 13.2 x 18.7

A charming pictorial map of Hollywood and the surrounding areas, with a focus on the entertainment industry, including big movie studios, restaurants, hotels, and clubs. Key street names are given, bounded by Venice Boulevard in the south and Vermont Avenue in the west. The map shows an interesting contrast between glamorous movie stars and hard-working immigrants, such as the Chinese laborers raking at bottom center and a Mexican with a donkey at bottom right. Created by John Groth, the map features his unique "speed line" style. Groth, a native Chicagoan and prominent artist, is best known for his paintings and illustrations of sports and war. He was an Art Director for Esquire magazine, and later served as an artist-correspondent during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

References: Hornsby #60; Rumsey #9843.
Condition: A+
Crisp, clean and bright with small holes along the centerfold where the staples were removed, as issued.
