A South Asian carved stone standing figure

[ translate ]

A South Asian carved stone standing figure
Circa 1900 or later
The male figure, nude but for a minimal loin cloth, depicted standing upright on a double tiered lotus plinth
15" H x 5.5" W x 3.5" D
Provenance: Property of an Important New York Corporate Collection
Condition Report: Overall fair to good condition with wear, dust accumulation, and minor scuffs commensurate with age. Previous restoration of a break with evidence of retouching to the upper right arm. The left arm is missing almost entirely. As well, there are losses to the front-facing portion of the topknot hairstyle. Likewise, the figure is broken from the pedestal at both ankles, but this has been previously restored with dowels installed and glue applied to upright the statue. It may be that this sculpture was found in several pieces and restored prior to its initial state. Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
