A South German carved wood figure of Saint Florian, 2nd half 17th century
Carved from two blocks three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. Partially overpainted older polychromy. A depiction of the saint standing in pronounced contrapposto designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. He wears a soldier's attire and holds a standard raised in his left hand. His attribute, the bucket of water, is separately carved and loosely attached. A finely worked and deeply undercut piece.
Minimal wear. Loosely mounted to a modern wooden plinth. Height 88 cm (without plinth). Provenance
