Condition Report:
With general overall marks, nicks, chips, surface scratches, and small losses consistent with age and use. The veneers with scattered fraying, lifting, and minor areas of losses and signs of infill and restoration. A few with old repaired breaks. Some separation at joints. Minor areas of dirt accumulation in crevices. Upholstery with general wear, marks, stains, and small tears. Overall sturdy and ready to use. The canape with replacements to front seat rail and reinforcement to back seat rail.

Henri Jacob (1753-1824), maître 1779.

Henri Jacob was the cousin of the celebrated royal menuisier Georges Jacob, and had his workshop in Rue de Bourbon-Villeneuve until 1799 and Rue de l'Echiquier until 1806. The 1815 Almanach du commerce de Paris, des departemens de l'empire francais et des principales villes du monde records Andry jeune as a Tapissier et Marchand de Meubles at no.14 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris, and also lists an Andry at Rue de l'Echiquier no.20.
