A TERRACOTTA MODEL OF A CAMEL, TANG
China, 618-907. The camel standing on a flat rectangular base, carrying a heavy saddle and with its head turned upwards with clenched teeth, giving the camel an almost fierce expression. This piece was probably excavated at Luoyang, one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.
Condition: Remains of old cold painting, patina, wear, losses, chipping, and old repairs, as expected on an excavation of this age.
Provenance: German private collection, acquired in 2008 at Chinese Arts Gallery in Hong Kong.
