(A) TRYON CONFEDERATE CONVERSION RIFLE.

George Tryon of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania made Kentucky style rifle. "Tryon Phila" octagonal rifled barrel with "T.M. Babb" stamped behind rear sight. Converted percussion lock marked "J.F. Boyd" and dated 1861 with double triggers. Period conversion using patent breech. Typical Philadelphia style "pineapple" finial four piece patch box with engraved lid and initials "TMB". Full plain maple stock with brass furniture with silver thumbpiece and added silver repair above toeplate. Hardwood ramrod with threaded tip. Patchbox has worm and extra mainspring inside. PROVENANCE: According to abstract with rifle T.M Babb served with the 6th South Carolina Calvary. J.F. Boyd served with the 7th South Carolina Calvary as a gunsmith. Another abstract lists rifle being bought from Babb family. CONDITION: Overall gun shows rough usage typical with guns used in combat. Gun is in original condition with no obvious restorations.
