A Tibetan symbolic mandala. 19th century
With a lotus flower at the centre within the walls of a palace, the forecourt with four entrances in the four cardinal directions, surrounded by four circles filled with lotus petals, charnel ground scenes, vajras and a flaming border, in a landscape setting with a lama and two bodhisattvas in the sky and three protector deities below. Gouache with details highlighted in gold on cloth. Silk mounting. Some wear.
