A Translucent Golden Yellow Jade 'Ruyi' Carving, 52BP
This elegantly formed jade ornament is worked from translucent golden yellow jade, shaped as a miniature ruyi sceptre with curved slender shaft and two cloud shaped terminals decorated with fine incised scroll patterns. The ruyi motif symbolises fulfilment of wishes, prosperity and auspicious well being within traditional Chinese iconography. The jade displays a translucent golden yellow base tone accented by soft russet mottled patches concentrated at the upper terminal and faint fine russet streaks along the shaft. The surface is smoothly polished to a bright glossy finish, with delicate incised carving defining the scrolling cloud ornamentation and gentle volumetric shaping along the curved body.
