A VERY FINE SILK & METAL THREAD HEREKE PRAYER RUG, TURKEY approx: 5ft. x 3ft.5in.(152cm. x 104cm.) Very good example for this type with well drawn design and good colour combination. Whole border, part of mihrab and some floral motifs on the field were woven in metal thread. apart of touches of very slight wear to the top pile, barely visible, this rug has full pile and is in very good condition throughout. Both selvages original. Ends with short kilim and short fringes. Extremely fine weave, approx: 11 x 11 knots per sq.cm; woven on silk foundation. Small signature at one end corner. Attractive and popular type at present market.
