A VERY LARGE PAIR OF CORAL-GROUND PORCELAIN BALUSTER VASES

China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Each baluster body rising from a splayed foot to a waisted neck molded with a bamboo groove, decorated in polychrome enamels with two lobed reserves enclosing quails and other birds amid rocks, flowering chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and peonies, beneath two panels containing butterflies, dragonflies, chrysanthemum, and lotus on the waisted neck, all against a coral ground.

Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear and minimal firing imperfections.
Provenance: Ex-Collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
