A VERY RARE 1855 LOCOMOTIVE LAMP CASE PATENT MODEL
The diminutive tin model of square tower form with peaked top and two strap handles, original japanned finish, original red and yellow paint decoration, wood base, internal burner set behind a bowl shape reflector with nickel plated interior. Perhaps the selling point of this invention was the tubular draft that spans the entire width of the back to vent the smoke from the burner through its crimped conical open ends.
The index of U.S patents lists this as number 13,537 and includes the description.
Measures 13 x 12 x 8.25 inches.
Provenance: The Collection of Ed McHugh, Massillon, Ohio
We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.
Condition Report: Very good condition, noting the loss of a trim piece along the base, the effects of age, storage and exposure, no major damage, replacement or repair.
