A VERY RARE WHITE JADE DOUBLE GOURDS TEAPOT

清乾隆 白玉鏤雕「福祿萬代」茶壺
Delicately carved in openwork in the form of double gourd with large gnarled branch forming the handle, opposite to a curved spout, with gnarled and leafy intertwining branches extending from the handle and growing around the body and spout, fitted with a domed cover surmounted with a compressed globular finial. The stone is of highly polished white tone with slight celadon inclusions. Qing Dynasty Qianlong period.

Height: 6 1/2 in (16.5 cm) Length: 5 in (12.7 cm) Width: 2 1/8 in (5.1 cm)

Provenance: Property from an important physician's collection, Los Angeles.
The gourd symbolizes 'good fortune', and the winding tendrils symbolize continuing the family line for numerous generations. Together, they represent blessings, prosperity, and longevity for generations. This ewer, with its exquisite craftsmanship, elegant design, and auspicious symbolism, is a rare gem of jade carving from the Qing Dynasty. A similar formed carving can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, catalogued with an accession number 02.18.588a, b.
