A VERY, VERY RARE DIVISION ONE ENAMEL BUTTON

[ translate ]

1 Large and gorgeous 18th century marine scene example! This button is one of two examples in this auction from a larger set of 9 buttons. Each example we are selling in this auction depicts a different scene. The enamel scenes are in an array of beautiful colors over a pink hued ground and accented on the border with an unusual and ornate twisted border of gold paillons. The scenes include people, architecture and water. These enamels were finely hand polished as witnessed by the absolutely smooth like glass finish. They are very thin enamel work in hand painted designs and set on a thin gilded brass back with loop shanks typical to the braised on shanks of this period. These are extremely rare and fine examples of very RARE work of the 18th century.

Dimensions: SM=Less than 3/4", Medium=3/4" to 1 1/4". Large=1 1/4" and above, extra large=1 3/4" and above
Date or Era: DIVISION 1=PRE 1918 AND DIVISION 3 IS AFTER 1918

Condition: PLEASE NOTE: These buttons for the most part are antique and may have age related wear. We make every effort to point out any significant condition related concerns, but again they are antique and not new. We also cannot be responsible for replaced shanks or issues related to the backs of any buttons on multiple button cards as we do not remove these buttons to re-card them. Please contact us if you would like any further condition reports on any lot.
