A VICTORIAN MAHOGANY EXTENDING DINING TABLE SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY, BY A BLAIN, LIVERPOOL With one additional leaf insertion, the winding mechanism with a brass plaque for 'JOSEPH FITTER, PATENT BRITANNIA WORKS, CHEAPSIDE, BIRMINGHAM', the underside of one corner stamped A BLAIN / LIVERPOOL 72cm high, 144cm long (unextended), 130cm deep Joseph Fitter (b.1842) was a Birmingham machinist. In 1861 he applied for a patent for an extending dining table; the business directories in 1870 listed his place of business as 210 Cheapside, Birmingham. Condition Report: The underside of one corner block is marked for A Blain, LiverpoolThis was disassembled for transport from storage to the saleroom for the view, it was at this time the stamped corner was discovered, please see additional photographs for details of this stamp and also how the table 'flat-packs' for ease of transportOverall with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, some chips and losses to veneers around the split pedestal base The additional leaf in similar condition to the table tops - with a polished appearance, this leaf is 71cm long meaning the table will extend to approximately 215cm overall There is a winding key the action is very tight, it does open but may benefit from a clean and a good oil before use Please see additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
